Meet local Nashville author and historian, Daniel L. Mallock as he signs his new book, Agony and Eloquence: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and a World of Revolution.
A new history by Nashville author and historian Daniel L. Mallock that investigates the complex relationship of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Adams’ contentiousness and Jefferson’s republican fanaticism finally brought their long friendship to a chilly close at the opening of the 19th century. They had been extraordinary friends and the greatest of Revolutionary colleagues until the French Revolution and political differences separated them. Ten years of silence passed before a mutual friend helped to renew this friendship. As different as two men could be, Adams and Jefferson were first united by revolution and then separated by it. The people and events surrounding these men at the end of Washington’s second term and through Jefferson’s presidency illuminate the fascinating and exciting period of American history that remains pertinent for us today.
