Barenaked Ladies | Last Summer on Earth 2016 w/ OMD and Howard Jones

The Last Summer on Earth Tour with Bare Naked Ladies, OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark) and Howard Jones.

After 27 years together, over 14 million albums sold, and multiple Juno Awards and Grammy nominations, Silverball, Barenaked Ladies’ (“One Week,” “Pinch Me, “If I Had $1,000,000”) fourteenth album finds the long-standing partnership of Ed Robertson (guitar, vocals), Jim Creeggan (bass, vocals), Kevin Hearn (keyboard, guitar, vocals) and Tyler Stewart (drums, vocals) firing on all cylinders. The album’s graying protagonist is battered and bruised by life, but as the opening song, “Get Back Up,” indicates, he keeps lifting himself off the campus, Rocky-like, to deliver a flurry of counterpunches, along with a wisecrack or two. But there’s an underlying poignancy to Silverball as well. This is a mature album containing rock & roll songs repurposed to portray resiliency in midlife.

Also performing are OMD (If You Leave, Souvenir, Tesla Girls) and Howard Jones (New Song, What is Love?,  Like to Get To know You Well, No One Is To Blame).

The Liverpool music scene in the late 1970’s was an exciting and dynamic place to be. Everyone was either in a band, in-between bands or were forming a band. In the midst of all this activity was Eric’s Club – a small discreet venue that was a favoured haunt for the people who would later form bands such as The Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnymen and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.  So it was quite apt that Eric’s was the venue of choice for the debut performance of OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark) in October 1978. Finally, deciding the time was right for an OMD revival, Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys reunited alongside former band members Mal Holmes and Martin Cooper. In 2007 they embarked on an extensive UK and European tour showcasing their classic Architecture & Morality album. As well as playing the album in its entirety, the band also presented a stage show of their most classic hits to a spectacular visual backdrop.

It was in 1983 that Howard Jones first burst upon the contemporary music scene with his very English songwriting, pioneering synthesizers and thought provoking lyrics. He set out his manifesto in his very first single ‘New Song’. The lyrics called on the listener to challenge their preconceived ideas, to see both sides and ‘throw off your mental chains’. New Song was recently used in a pivotal scene in ‘Breaking Bad’ where Aaron Paul’s character Jessie Pinkman questions if he wants to ‘play by the rules’. New Song peaked at number 3 in the UK singles charts. Howard Jones continues to tour across the world every year performing to many hundreds of thousands of music fans. His current high tech band features Jonathan Atkinson on electric drums and Robbie Bronnimann on sequencing and additional keyboards. Highlights of 2014 /15 include over 50 North American shows including a stand out show at The Greek in LA along with numerous festival appearances in the UK. 2015 has seen Howard perform his new multi media show ‘Engage’ at The indigo at the O2’ in London, The Saban Theatre in LA and at the Gramercy in New York City. The ground breaking multi media show incorporates specially commissioned visuals, projected both in front and behind the band and invites the audience to participate through smart phone apps, customised clothing, and fluorescent makeup.
