Using excerpts from his current working manuscript — Tennessee: Slavery, Civil War & Reconstruction, 1796-1896 — retired TSU professor of history Bobby L. Lovett will weave an overview of how the antislavery/manumission movement met defeat in Tennessee.

Details: The Cumberland River Compact, located on the 3rd floor of the Bridge Building. 2 Victory Ave, Nashville, TN 37213. Free parking is available in Lot R of the LP field parking lot. Doors open and lunch will be available at 11:30am, the lecture will run from 12:00pm-12:50pm and will be followed by a question and answer session.
