Fort Negley Park and The Army of the Cumberland Living History Corps invite you to meet President Lincoln and explore the life of soldiers on Garrison duty.
Garrison soldiers hold weapons inspections for safety, drill for readiness, assess their sick, recharge during lunch, tidy their tent, drill again for extra readiness, and receive their $13 for a month’s work. Come experience their daily duties for yourself.
Schedule for Friday April 8th and Saturday April 9th:
- 900 Weapons Inspection – Inspections make sure soldiers are ready for anything.
- 1000 Infantry Drill – Soldiers practice formations to insure they are ready for attack.
- 1100 Sick Call – The troop is surveyed to see who is fit for duty.
- 1200 Soldiers’ Meal & Leisure Time – Soldiers enjoy lunch and little relaxation.
- 1300 Camp Maintenance – Beds must be made and tents tidied just like at home
- 1400 Infantry Drill – To keep the soldiers sharp they drill again.
- 1500 Pay Call / Event Ends – Soldiers never risk missing pay day.
