Lionel Cartwright and Allen Shamblin
Lionel Cartwright began his musical career in a West Virginia basement with a player piano and a record player. His vinyl instructors included the great Nashville session players, as well as Elton John and Billy Joel. At 22 years, he moved to Nashville, where he eventually scored country hits with his self-penned “Give Me His Last Chance,” “Leap of Faith,” and “I Watched It All On My Radio,”(co-written with Don Schlitz), along with other top 10’s. In 1990, he was nominated for ACM New Male Vocalist along with Clint Black and Garth Brooks. He toured extensively, sharing the stage with virtually every act in country music and chalking up thousands of performances. In addition to his performing career, Lionel’s work as a composer has appeared on numerous television shows and documentaries, a career choice that allowed him to be present and active in his kids’ lives as they grew up. A lifelong creative, he continues to thrive, eagerly leaning into new ways of creating works that speak to people’s hearts.
Allen Shamblin was born in Tennessee and grew up in Huffman, Texas, about 30 miles outside of Houston. After graduating with a Marketing degree from Sam Houston State University, Allen moved to Austin, Texas, where he worked as a real estate appraiser by day and honed his songwriting skills by night. In August of 1987, Allen moved to Nashville, with 14 completed songs. His “story songs” with vivid detail and honest, earthy lyrics quickly caught the ear of the Nashville music establishment. In 1989, it was Randy Travis’ #1 version of “He Walked On Water”, which brought Allen to the forefront of the songwriting community seemingly overnight. This began a string of award winning songs throughout the 1990’s and on into the new millennium Allen has had more than 100 songs recorded by artists in several genres of music. He currently resides in Franklin, Tennessee, with his wife Lori and their three children on a small farm with 3 horses, 2 burros, 1 Texas Longhorn steer, 5 goats, 1 rooster and too many dogs and cats (that he loves).
