Music at the Frist: Buddy Spicher and Billy Contreras

Join us for a free concert in the cafe featuring Folk/Jazz music with Buddy Spicher and Billy Contreras.

Buddy Spicher and Billy Contreras have been twin fiddle partners for more than 20 years. They have both played with Hank Thompson, Ray Price, George Jones, and Crystal Gayle, and both currently teach at Belmont University.

Fiddler Buddy Spicher is, quite simply, a legend in the Nashville recording business. A member of the famed Nashville “A Team,” Buddy has performed with the pantheon of great country artists of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. The demand for his talents didn’t stop at country; he can be heard on recordings by Elvis Presley, Gary Burton, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, The Monkees, Linda Ronstadt, Ray Charles, Henry Mancini, Dan Fogelberg, and others.

Billy Contreras has been called “the finest jazz violinist of his time,” and has performed or recorded with a stunning array of notables, including Lionel Hampton, Doc Severinsen, Hank Jones, Crystal Gayle, Grady Tate and Charlie Louvin. He has also appeared with the Cincinnati Pops and Nashville Symphony Orchestras. In addition to teaching at Belmont University, Billy leads his own band, traversing an amalgam of styles that includes jazz, country, blues, western swing, rock and jam.
