Nashville Cats: Salute to Guitarist Pete Wade
A salute to Musician’s Hall of Famer Pete Wade!
A Musicians Hall of Famer and a member of Nashville’s A-Team of studio maestros, Pete Wade has contributed to classic recordings from George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Charley Pride, Conway Twitty, the Statler Brothers, Roy Clark, Reba McEntire, and many more. Wade moved to Nashville from his native Virginia and joined Ray Price’s band in March of 1954, and he toured with greats including Price, Ferlin Husky, Faron Young, and Kitty Wells. In 1956, Wade played guitar on Price’s “Crazy Arms,” helping create Price’s trademark shuffle. Whether playing fluid fills, stinging electric leads, or steady rhythm, Wade was an integral element in hits including Jones’s “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” Pride’s “Mountain of Love,” Lynn Anderson’s “Rose Garden,” and Skeeter Davis’s “The End of the World.” The interview will be illustrated with vintage photos, film footage, and recordings, and Wade will perform briefly. After the program, Wade will sign copies of a limited edition Hatch Show Print commemorating the day. Streamed live at countrymusichalloffame.org/streaming.
