Southern Word Grand Slam Semifinal
Davidson County’s top high school poets, emcees and spoken word artists will compete for lyrical honors. The winner will head to the statewide finals on April 23 for a chance to compete in the Brave New Voices Festival this summer in Washington D.C.
Join us as the region’s top youth poets, emcees, and spoken word artists compete for top lyrical honors, a chance to appear at the statewide finals and a shot to travel to the Brave New Voices Festival slated for Washington, DC, this summer.
Southern Word creates a platform for youth to speak about the real hopes and challenges of their lives. Discretion is advised for this event as some material may be unsuitable for young children.
The event is presented by Southern Word in partnership with the Frist Center and made possible through the generous support of the Metro Nashville Arts Commission, Tennessee Arts Commission, and the National Endowment of the Arts.

Free Admission; however, space is limited. A ticket is required for entry. Tickets will be available at the Southern Word website.
