Writing To Learn & Learning To Write in Mathematics
Join the Institute for Learning in a one-day workshop, to learn how to successfully embed and support writing to enhance students’ understanding of mathematical concepts.
You will recognize the value of and the relationship between underlying mathematical ideas, the instructional tasks, and writing about mathematical reasoning; experience and learn to apply the IFL Writing Overlay Process for writing conjectures, evidence and mathematical reasoning; and learn about strategies for supporting students writing about mathematical reasoning.
This one-day institute combines direct instruction and hands-on practice. Additional follow-up days for implementation, review and coaching are available at the district level. This institute is ideal for any mathematics teacher, coach, or leader who is interested in or responsible for math instruction. We recommend registering with a colleague so that you have someone to partner with when developing writing in your math classrooms.
