chatterbird presents a night of intriguing new classical music, including:
EVE BEGLARIAN: Machaut in the Age of Motown & Machaut a Go Go, for chamber ensemble. From the Machaut in the Machine Age series, these pieces explore Motown and Go-go/funk influences through the lens of Medieval lyricism.
TUNE-YARDS: Water Fountain, arranged for chamber ensemble by Jon-Paul Frappier. Sheer, danceable, percussive fun. Watch us channel our inner Merrill Garbus!
JOHN FONVILLE: Music for Sarah, for solo flute. Inspired by dancer Sarah Brumgart, this piece channels the sounds and style of bamboo flute, shakuhachi, Tibetan chant, luau music, and improvisational pygmy singing styles to create an intriguing composition for solo flute.
ALEX TEMPLE: This Changes Everything! for sax and electronics. After some intensive Oingo Boingo listening sessions, Alex created this composition for saxophone and electronics, “a genre-bendy piece that takes New Wave vibrato keyboards, industrial drums, a Wendy-Carlos-ish fugue, a post-minimalist ending, and a big yellow buzzing ugly microtonal slow section, and squeezes them all into something resembling sonata form.”
BRYAN CLARK: Say It! (Heaven Is), for chamber ensemble, a world premiere romp for electric guitar, trumpet, bass, percussion, and electronics.
DENNIS DESANTIS: +8, a driving, rhythmic, composition written for tenor sax and drum set from a composer known for his electronic music and sound design.
FREDERIC RZEWSKI: Les moutons de panurge, for ensemble and audience. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. If you have a sheep noisemaker, bring it.
Featuring extra special guests, vocalist Dacia Bridges and Robert Harsen, drums.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Credit/debit and cash will be accepted at the door.
