Prior to hire at Belmont University in 1992 as the Chair of the Art Department, Jim Meaders taught painting in South Carolina, Georgia, and West Virginia. In 2003, Meaders stepped down as Department Chair in order to return to full-time teaching. His work has been exhibited in both juried and solo exhibitions in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Virgin-ia, West Virginia, Utah, California, Washington D.C., Massachusetts, Missouri, and Tennessee. As Jim Meaders approaches retirement in May 2016, this retrospective exhibition spands his 45 year artistic career.
Meaders states, “I find it exciting to both create works using a variety of media and to help students discover this same excitement. Because of my students’ influence over my 37 year teaching career, I found myself looking at my subject matter and trying to figure out how I would present it in a different way and what media I would select for this purpose. The greatest chal-lenge was in limiting the seemingly infinite possibilities available to me.”
