The Pink Ribbon of Hope Save-A-Life Mammogram Project has reached thousands of underserved women throughout the Upper Cumberland; teaching them about breast-health and giving them access to free screening-diagnostic mammograms. The Pink Gala is our main fundraiser for this effort to offer life-saving screenings to underserved women in our community.
Mammograms can detect cancer in its early stages, when it is most treatable. Since the 1990s mammograms have helped to reduce the mortality rate of breast cancer by about 32 percent. That is one out of three moms, sisters, wives and daughters who remain with us, largely due to early detection found through a mammogram. Yet there are large groups of women who do not take advantage of this life-saving screening. Uninsured, minority and rural women have disproportionate access to screenings and generally less of an understanding of the importance of being screened.
In 2016 we will celebrate the 8th Annual Pink Gala on October 22 at the Leslie Town Centre. Your support will help us bring life-saving awareness-education and charitable screenings to deserving, yet underserved women in our community. The Pink Gala will begin with a cocktail hour, and include dancing and mingling until an elegant dinner of lobster, steak and other delicacies are served. After dinner, we will view a short video on the importance of the Pink Ribbon Fund, and conclude our silent auction of unique experiences, jewelry, art and baskets. Finally, the evening will wrap up with dancing inspired by a local DJ.
