“This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs the Climate” is a documentary film based on the book of the same title by Naomi Klein, an award-winning environmental journalist, which will be shown on January 23rd at 6:30 pm. We will learn more about the most profound threat humanity has ever faced: the war our economic model is waging against life on earth.
Due to the length of the film, only the second half (about 45 minutes) will be shown, as this begins the discussion of the role of capitalism in climate change. The first half is largely about the oil pipeline. The film can be rented for about $4 if anyone wants to watch the first half before this event, and the book is available from the public library.
Following the showing of the film, there will be a 45-minute Q&A with three panelists:
The film is presented by a committee of three members from Greater Nashville Unitarian Universalist Congregation and two others who trained directly under Al Gore in the Climate Reality Project. Unitarian Principle Number Eight is “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.” We need to find the answer to the question of whether the world is too greedy and selfish to rise to this challenge.
The event will conclude with coffee and desserts for all, provided by individual members of GNUUC.
