at Unknown

Come in Chinese costumes or outfits.  Red is the lucky color especially for the Chinese New Year! Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville isorganizing a free out-door Chinese New Year of the Monkey Celebration for our community.  Combining several organizaitons and schols’ efforts to make this possible.

Come see Lion & Dragon dances; enjoy chopstick game, Chinese sing-along, Bamboo dance, Kungfu, Taichi Sword, Chinese food, and much more.

A choir of students and individuals will open the program at Corner Park with a popular Chinese New Year Song called ??Gong Xi (pronounced  “gong-see”).  Gong Xi means congratulations and it’s said to congratulate one another for making it to another year and to wish each other good luck for the coming one. It’s a sing-along with the music available!

Chinese language students from MLK Magnet High School will perform a fan dance. A teacher from Eakin will give a Taichi Sword demonstration with a Taichi instructor from Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Vanderbilt University.  The Principal from the Nashville Chinese School will conduct a chopsticks game.  Burmese Community’s Zomi Bamboo Dance will present Bamboo Dance, which is a popular folk dance in Asia, including Taiwan.  Vanderbilt’s KungFu Club is presenting Kungfu.  A Chinese Language teacher from University School is managing the performance site, and a vendor will be selling Chinese food.

CAAN’s 60-foot-long dragon will be hoisted by 10 strong men and women, and the lion dance will be performed by 2 teams of two dancers. Drumming is also part of the performance because it’s said that a big noise and the color red drive away evil spirits.

The Chinese New Year Celebration @ Hillsboro Village event is supported by Eakin School, Nashville Chinese School, Vanderbilt University, Corner Stone Credit Union, Hillsboro West End Neighborhood Association., MLK Chinese Program, Zomi Bamboo Dance Group, Vanderbilt KungFu Club, and the Hillsboro Village Merchant Association.
