The Parthenon is a 1:1 scale replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. Inside stands the nearly 42 foot gilded sculpture of Athena. Created by Nashville artist, Alan LeQuire, the image recreates that which most likely stood in the 5th BCE temple. Also on view are casts of the Parthenon marbles and maquettes of the exterior East and West pediment sculptures. The lower level houses a permanent display of American paintings, the Cowan Collection, and a changing exhibition space. In addition there are various historical exhibits to explain the history of the Nashville Parthenon, first built in 1897 as the centerpiece of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition.
The Conservancy for the Parthenon and Centennial Park is the the support organization that benefits the Parthenon and Centennial Park. The Conservancy is a private, not-for-profit organization, serving the community through stewardship and promotion of The Parthenon and Centennial Park.
